Civil War Quilt Blocks - Lilies

If you know your native wild flowers, then you have probably heard of the Carolina Lily or Lilium Michauxii. It's a beautiful native lily that grows in some of the southeast states. It is the state wildflower for North Carolina. It's one of my favorite native lilies.

I have searched the web for quilt blocks with lilies and came across a couple Carolina Lily blocks some dating back to the Civil War. Which just happens to be my favorite of fabrics. It also helps that my husband and I are suckers for anything that has historical value or a story behind it. So, I always start with some kind of picture or idea and make my own version of a block. That is currently what I'm working on. More soon. Maybe a pieced version and a paper piece version? Hmmm....the creative juices are flowing!!

Dachshund quilt pattern coming soon - A Red Barn Quilt Company original pattern. The quilt below is for sale!

So, here is the story on how the below quilt came to be:

I was talking it up one night with my friend Gin about what the two of us were going to donate for the raffle for the upcoming National Dachshund Specialty show in Chattanooga, TN which will be held in the spring of next year. Gin and I are members of the Cumberland Valley Dachshund club and are responsible for this years raffle. (Gin did such a wonderful job last year that she has been dubbed the "raffle queen".) What I came up with is pictured below. Hmmm...maybe I can get her to send me a picture of hers to post! What do you say, Gin? The quilt below is lap size and is made with appliqued Dachshunds and in Civil War fabric to boot!! The below quilt is not for the raffle. I am keeping that one under wraps for a bit longer. The below quilt is for sale. It's 48 x 60 and is $450 with free shipping to the US. For more info and pictures of the quilt below please email me at redbarnquiltcompany@gmail.com. Pattern will be available soon!
